The Chrysler 200 is an attractive, comfortable, and truly appealing sedan. A beautiful and neatly detailed interior blends amicably with the smooth, graceful exterior. Introduced for the 2015 model year, this latest Chrysler 200 is a striking improvement over the previous version.
For 2016, Chrysler 200 has just a few feature changes, along with some interior improvements, and three new exterior colors. 2016 Chrysler 200S and 2016 Chrysler 200 Limited models come standard with a rearview camera. Blind-spot Monitoring and Rear Cross Path detection are optional for the Limited, which can now be equipped with a V6 engine. A heated steering wheel is now standard on 200C models.
A 90th Anniversary Package is available, to mark the 90th year of the Chrysler brand, based upon the Limited model.
Two engines are available. Chryslers 3.7-liter V6 engine, developing 295 horsepower and mating with a 9-speed automatic transmission, is a smooth-operating powertrain. The V6 amounts to Chryslers answer to turbo-four engines available from competitive makes. With the V6 engine, the Chrysler 200 is EPA-rated at 19/32 mpg City/Highway, or 23 mpg Combined.
An also-smooth 184-horsepower, 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine is standard, but all trim levels other than the 200LX can get the V6. Gas mileage is EPA-rated at up to 23/36 mpg City/Highway with the four-cylinder engine.
The Chrysler 200 is built on an extended version of the Dodge Dart platform, adapting the Darts front and rear suspension, as well as electric power steering. Front-wheel drive is standard, but all-wheel drive is available as an option on 200S and 200C models.
Inside is an attractive cabin, spacious in front but tight in the back seats.
Underway, the Chrysler 200 is pleasant, though a bit firm, with average handling.

Chrysler 200 is all-new for the 2015 model year. Distantly derived from an excellent Alfa Romeo sedan chassis, this all-new second-generation Chrysler 200 is going toe-to-toe with the best-selling mid-size sedans. Among them: Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, Hyundai Sonata, Kia Optima, Ford Fusion, and Chevrolet Malibu.
It better be pretty good, you say. And at a quick glance, the 2015 Chrysler 200 certainly looks the part. Its styling is crisply contemporary, as charismatic and eye-catching as anything in the category. From its forward-thrusting nose to the sleek faux-coupe roofline and cleanly understated tail, it has a chic world-car presence that will easily earn its place in the front row at valet parking.
The interior, too, is attractively done. Especially in the upper trim levels, the Chrysler 200 has a luxurious look and feel that easily matches its tried-and-true competitors. Available Nappa leather upholstery complements instruments with pleasing refinement, including swank touches such as a Jaguar-like selector knob for engaging the transmission. The seating is excellent, though not overly roomy in back, and road noise is extremely low.
But the key to any car is its road behavior. Here the 2015 Chrysler 200 has real strength. Its well-weighted steering feel and chassis responses are controlled and agile. Not surprisingly, given Chryslers Fiat ownership, the Chrysler 200 has alert European road feel. Excellent.
Chrysler 200s two engines, the standard 2.4-liter I4 and the optional 3.6-liter V6, provide adequate acceleration and fuel mileage, falling mid-pack in the class. Only one transmission is offered, an ambitious 9-speed automatic.
Chrysler 200 is front-wheel drive. All-wheel drive is available on V6 models.

The midsize Chrysler 200 comes in sedan and convertible versions and offers a choice of two excellent engines. They are quiet underway, deliver better-than-average handling, and perform nicely when equipped with the 6-speed automatic transmission. The styling is simple, elegant and understated. Chrysler has come a long way with these cars. Its reasonable price, bevvy of standard equipment and good driving dynamics make the Chrysler 200 a solid choice among front-wheel-drive midsize cars.
For 2013, Chrysler replaces the 200 S model with an S package available on the Touring and Limited trim levels. The 2013 Chrysler 200 Touring S package upgrades with 18-inch aluminum wheels, a black finish grille, fog lamp bezels, projector fog lamps and black treatment headlamps. The 2013 Chrysler 200 Limited S package upgrades further with interior enhancements including leather-trimmed bucket seats and a perforated leather steering wheel.
The standard engine is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder that makes 173 horsepower and 166 pound-feet of torque. A 4-speed automatic transmission is standard on the LX, but we recommend opting for the 6-speed automatic.
The Chrysler 200 Limited features a 3.6-liter V6 good for 283 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. A 6-speed automatic is standard. The V6 is an option on the Chrysler 200 Touring model.
Fuel economy for Chrysler 200 sedan with the four-cylinder engine is an EPA-estimated 20/31 mpg City/Highway with the 6-speed automatic (21/29 with the 4-speed automatic). Chrysler 200 convertibles with the four-cylinder rate a less impressive 18/27 mpg. With the V6, EPA estimates are 19/29 mpg City/Highway for all sedan and convertible models.
We found the Chrysler 200 offers a smooth ride, a solid feel and surprisingly tight handling. The cabin is very quiet thanks to ample sound absorption materials, an acoustic glass windshield and laminated side glass usually found in higher priced vehicles. The four-cylinder engine uses special engine mounts to reduce noise.
The interior is tasteful, with high-quality materials and supportive seats. The instrument panel's gray-on-gray graphics are pleasing, and its white accent lighting is wonderful at night, with nice ambient cockpit lighting.
Because the Chrysler 200 is smaller than many midsize cars, rear legroom suffers a bit, as does cargo space on hardtop models. Surprisingly, though, the convertible's trunk is relatively roomy, thanks to an efficient storage design for the drop-top.
Although the Chrysler 200 sedan is a perfectly capable vehicle, it's overshadowed by many models in the class that have been redesigned or refreshed in the past year or two, including the Ford Fusion, Honda Accord, Nissan Altima, and Toyota Camry. Other competitors worth considering include the Chevrolet Malibu, Kia Optima and Hyundai Sonata. Of all of these, the Chrysler 200 has the most old-school feel. Convertible competitors are less plentiful. The Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro are more performance-oriented. The Volkswagen Eos is pricier, but features a retractable hardtop.
The Chrysler 200 comes with a 5-year 100,000-mile powertrain warranty and is built at Chrysler's assembly plant in Sterling Heights, Michigan.
