Model Overview of The Jeep Compass's For Sale in Middletown, CT

2016 Jeep Compass Information

2016 Jeep Compass

The Jeep Compass combines competence and predictable maneuverability with smooth powertrains and an ample selection of standard equipment at affordable prices. Fuel economy is not a strong point, however, and the 2016 Compass is a dated product lacking the latest technology and safety features.

Compass was launched as a 2007 model and updated for 2011. The 2016 Jeep Compass lineup has been trimmed to two levels: Sport and Latitude. Though dated, the current-generation Compass has been refined and considerably improved since its introduction.

All 2016 Compass models come with Uconnect hands-free calling and satellite radio compatibility. The 2016 Compass Sport SE is a new package with heated cloth front seats, 18-inch wheels, and rearview camera. The High Altitude Package remains as an option for four-wheel-drive models with automatic. It offers most of the features from the previous Limited model, plus a sunroof and chrome-clad alloy wheels.

The Compass profile is essentially trapezoidal, subdued by soft detailing. For 2011, Compass adopted styling cues from the big Grand Cherokee.

The interior has been updated with elements used on other Jeep and Dodge vehicles.

Base engine is a 158-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder with a choice of 5-speed manual gearbox or optional 6-speed automatic transmission. Limited models use a 172-horsepower 2.4-liter engine with a 6-speed automatic.

Jeep continues to offer the CVT. In fact, its the only choice if you want the highly capable Trail Rated four-wheel-drive system. That combination stands ready to churn through dirt or sand, and engage in moderate rock-crawls, though not with the capability of a Wrangler.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gives Compass only three stars for frontal crash, four stars for rollover and overall, and five in side-impact testing.

2015 Jeep Compass Information

2015 Jeep Compass

Compass is built like a car and drives like one. Yet, it possesses much of the versatility and capability associated with a small SUV.

Though not as rugged as a Wrangler or even a Patriot, Jeep Compass stacks up well against Honda CR-V, Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage, Subaru Forester, Toyota RAV4, and other entry-level SUVs.

Jeep Compass gets new options for the 2015 model year. A new High Altitude Package is available for 2015 Compass 44 models with the 6-speed automatic transmission; the High Altitude Package includes leather seating, a power sunroof, power six-way drivers seat, and 17-inch aluminum painted wheels. Navigation is now an option for the 2015 Compass Latitude model. All 2015 Jeep Compass models come with a new dome light that replaces the previous rechargeable flashlight. Compass was substantially upgraded for 2014 after being freshened for 2011 and 2009 and launched as a 2007 model.

Two engines and four transmissions are available, along with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Buyers may choose from two levels of the active 44 system. A 6-speed automatic transmission is standard on Compass Limited, optional for Compass Sport and Compass Latitude. Two versions of a continuously variable transmission (CVT) are available for specific applications.

Front-wheel drive is standard, but buyers can choose Jeeps Freedom Drive I or Freedom Drive II Off-Road Package for improved traction. Freedom Drive I is full-time all-wheel drive, delivering almost all of the torque to the front wheels until more traction is needed at the rear (with up to 60 percent available there). A lock mode may be engaged for snow, sand and mud. Freedom Drive I is a good system for wintry conditions.

Freedom Drive II is Jeep Trail Rated, meaning its highly capable on rugged terrain. Freedom Drive II uses a continuously variable transaxle (CVT2L) with a low range that engages when Off-Road mode is activated. Included are 17-inch all-terrain tires and aluminum wheels, raised ride height, a full-size spare tire, skid plates, tow hooks, fog lamps, and manual seat height adjuster. On the down side, Freedom Drive II is likely to give up two or three miles per gallon in fuel economy.

A 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine comes standard, making 158 horsepower and 141 pound-feet of torque. The 2.0-liter engine is available with a 5-speed manual, a 5-speed automatic, or a continuously variable transmission. With the 5-speed manual transmission and front-wheel drive, the 2.0-liter engine delivers an EPA-estimated 23/30 mpg City/Highway.

A larger 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine is available that produces 172 horsepower and 165 pound-feet of torque. Best fuel economy is with the 5-speed manual with an EPA-rated 23/28 mpg City/Highway. Also available with the 2.4-liter engine are a 6-speed automatic and the CVT2L.

2014 Jeep Compass Information

2014 Jeep Compass

Redesigning for 2011 transformed the Jeep Compass into a whole new vehicle. Not as in all-new, but gaining an entirely new, real-Jeep character. Thats because all the right changes were made, both mechanical and cosmetic. The styling is less original than the first (2007-10) generation; and where Jeeps are concerned, thats a benefit. That early Compass never looked much like a Jeep, and couldnt go off-road like one, either.

The Compass is built like a car and drives like a car. Yet, it possesses much of the versatility and capability associated with a small SUV. Compass has a strong steel structure and a well-planned subframe. Side-curtain airbags and electronic stability control with anti-rollover sensors are standard.

Its still not as rugged as a Wrangler, by any means, or even a Patriot. However, a Compass stacks up well against other entry-level SUVs, including Honda CR-V, Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage, Mitsubishi Outlander Sport, Nissan Rogue, Subaru Forester, and Toyota RAV4.

Compass is available with two engines and two transmissions, in three trim levels, with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive with a choice of two levels of the active 44 system.

For 2014, Jeep Compass has been updated inside and out. A new 6-speed automatic transmission became available, standard on 2014 Compass Latitude and 2014 Compass Limited models and optional for the 2014 Compass Sport. A continuously variable transmission (CVT2), with a crawl ratio for off-roading, remains as an option for all three trim levels. Front seat-mounted side-impact airbags became standard for 2014, and a rearview backup camera joined the option list.

With the optional Freedom Drive II off-road package, the Compass earns Jeeps Trail Rated status, making it a worthy choice for moderate off-road treks, even if it could never match the hard-traveling prowess of a Jeep Wrangler with its two-speed transfer case.

Inside, the instruments and controls are well placed and easy to use. Theres good interior space all around, with rear seats that fold flat to provide almost 54 cubic feet of cargo space. Options for added versatility include reclining rear seats and a front passenger seat that also folds flat, creating either a table or an eight-foot-long space for storage.

As an alternative to standard front-wheel drive, buyers can choose Jeeps Freedom Drive I or Freedom Drive II Off-Road Package. Freedom Drive I is full-time all-wheel drive, delivering almost all of the torque to the front wheels until more traction is needed at the rear (with up to 60 percent available there). A lock mode may be engaged for snow, sand and mud.

For rugged off-roading theres Freedom Drive II, which is Jeep Trail Rated. It uses a continuously variable transaxle (CVT2) with a low range that engages when Off-Road mode is activated. Included are 17-inch all-terrain tires and aluminum wheels, raised ride height, a full-size spare tire, skid plates, tow hooks, fog lamps and manual seat height adjuster. On the down side, Freedom Drive II is likely to give up 2 or 3 mpg in fuel economy.

The standard engine is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder making 158 horsepower and 141 pound-feet of torque, with 5-speed manual shift or coupled to the CVT with Autostick manual mode that the driver can shift up and down through six preset gear ratios. With the 5-speed manual transmission and front-wheel drive, the 2.0-liter delivers an EPA-rated 23/30 mpg City/Highway.

The proven 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine produces 172-horsepower and 165 pound-feet of torque. Standard on the Limited and available for the others, it uses dual Variable Valve Timing (VVT) on both intake and exhaust camshafts. That helps optimize the torque curve at all speeds and produces more power, better fuel economy and smoother, quieter operation.
