When Chevrolet reworked its Impala full-size sedan for 2014, the transformation was stunning. Instead of a bland, dowdy four-door like the previous Impala, the reworked version could truly be called beautiful, as well as comfortable, appealing, and abundantly equipped. Fuel-efficient, too.

For 2016, little has changed other than adding Apple CarPay to the MyLink smartphone interface. Theres also a new option for wireless smartphone charging. Todays Impala is connected to the digital world.
Much of the Impalas running gear is shared with the Buick LaCrosse and Cadillac XTS. Inside, the dashboard shows intensive work, though a more subdued approach would have been nicer.
Equipped with stop/start technology, the standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine makes 196 horsepower. Thats sufficient to propel an Impala most of the time. Still, even a brief, modest hill saps strength. EPA-estimated fuel economy for the 2.5-liter Impala is 22 mpg in city driving, 31 mpg on the highway.
With a V6 under the hood, the Impala turns into quite an energetic performer, neatly matching its engaging mix of comfort and well-composed handling. Generating 305 horsepower, the V6 mates with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Fuel economy for the 2016 Chevrolet Impala with the 3.6-liter V6 engine is rated by the EPA to be 19 mpg city, 29 mpg highway, or 22 mpg combined.
Even with available 20-inch wheels, occupants can expect a neatly damped ride. Electric power steering reacts promptly and doesnt feel too heavy.
The Impala is more spacious than the Ford Taurus, Hyundai Azera and Toyota Avalon. Impala boasts supportive seats up front. Headroom falls short in the flat, bench-type back seat, though legroom satisfies.

The Chevrolet Impala is a full-size sedan in the same class as the Toyota Avalon, Ford Taurus, and Hyundai Azera. Because it was redesigned for 2014, there are few changes for 2015. The biggest news is the addition of OnStar with 4G LTE on all 2015 Impala models. The 4G LTE system provides a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot inside the car for drivers and passengers to stay connected; its on whenever the car is on. 2015 Impalas equipped with the 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine come with a stop/start feature that shuts the engine off whenever the car is stopped to save gas, then restarts it the moment the driver lifts off the brake and steps on the accelerator. The 2015 Impala will be available with a new bi-fuel version of the 3.6-liter V6 that can operate on gasoline or super-clean-running compressed natural gas.
The 2015 Chevrolet Impala offers a choice of three engines. The 2.5-liter Ecotec inline-4 makes 196 horsepower and 145 pound-feet of torque and gets an EPA-estimated 22/31 mpg City/Highway. Most powerful is the 3.6-liter V6 with direct injection rated at 305 horsepower and 264 pound-feet of torque and 19/29 mpg. All Impala models use GMs 6-speed Hydra-matic transmission.
The new bi-fuel version of the 3.6-liter V6 produces 260 horsepower and 247 pound-feet of torque on gas or 230 horsepower and 281 pound-feet running on CNG. The bi-fuel V6 will be available later in the 2015 model year, and EPA fuel economy estimates had not been released when this was published. (Last years 2.4-liter inline-4 with GMs eAssist mild-hybrid system has been discontinued.)
While the stop-start system has added 1 mpg to the 2015 2.5-liters EPA City estimate, its a far cry from the 25/35 mpg rating in last years 2.4-liter with eAssist.
Good aerodynamics help the 2015 Impala with fuel economy, in part aided by wind blockers positioned in front of the tires, which look like mud flaps put on the wrong way. Four-cylinder models get an active aero-shutter grille and underbody aero panels to make the Impala even more slippery. Efficiency is aided by electric power steering that draws energy only when the steering wheel is turned.
A quiet ride is one of the Impalas strong suits. Acoustic glass in the front side windows, extra foam in the body, and additional sound deadening material in the floor pan and trunk help to keep occupants feeling like theyre in their own little bubble.
Four-wheel disc brakes with ABS and brake assist come standard on all models, and rotors have a special coating that resists rust, which not only keeps them shiny, but also reduces shudder under braking and, according to Chevrolet, doubles the life expectancy of the rotors to 80,000 miles.
Several electronic safety systems are optional on mid-range Impala LT models and standard on Impala LTZ trims, including forward collision alert, lane departure warning, side blind zone alert, rear cross traffic alert and rear park assist. Top-of-the-line Impala LTZ trims with the V6 engine can also be equipped with full-range adaptive cruise control with collision mitigation braking and brake pre-fill. With this technology, the Impala will automatically keep a safe distance from the car in front while cruising, and will slow down or even stop itself if a collision is imminent.

Forget what you know about the Chevrolet Impala. Originally launched as a 1958 model, the Impala name boasts a long, storied history. Though of late it was often dismissed as a mediocre rental car, the Impala is back with a vengeance, sporting a sophisticated design, high-quality interior and spot-on driving dynamics.
Chevrolet is now calling the five-passenger Impala a full-size sedan, though it was previously classified as a midsize. Surprisingly stylish looks grab you from the first glance, and a high-quality interior with many thoughtful touches keep driver and passengers happy in the cabin.
The 2014 Chevrolet Impala is bigger, quieter and more efficient than before. Its wheelbase has been stretched by a little more than an inch, yet it offers nearly six more inches in combined front and rear legroom. The 2014 Impala is front-wheel drive and shares GM's Epsilon platform with the Buick LaCrosse, Buick Regal, Cadillac XTS and Chevrolet Malibu.
Three engine choices range from powerful to practical. General Motors' familiar direct injection 3.6-liter V6 is the beefiest of the bunch, with 305 horsepower and 264 pound-feet of torque. A 2.5-liter Ecotec inline-4 makes 196 hp and 145 lb.-ft., while a 2.4-liter inline-4 with GM's eAssist mild hybrid system is good for 182 hp and 172 lb.-ft. All variants use GM's 6-speed Hydra-Matic transmission. The V6 will roll off the assembly line first, followed 2.5-liter 4-cylinder, with the eAssist version expected a few months after that.
EPA fuel economy ratings for the V6 are 19/29 mpg City/Highway. EPA fuel economy estimates for the four-cylinders were unofficial at press time, but Chevrolet expected the 2.5-liter to achieve 21/31 mpg city/highway, and the 2.4-liter with eAssist to yield 25/35 mpg. By way of comparison, the old Impala got an EPA-estimated 18/29 mpg with its standard 3.5-liter V6 and 17/27 mpg with the bigger, 3.9-liter V6.
