The Lincoln MKC compact crossover debuted as a 2015 model and fares well when compared to new premium models, such as the Cadillac XT5.
The 2017 Lincoln MKC comes with more standard equipment than last years model, including a power liftgate and an automatic-hold function. Also, automatic stop/start is now standard with the 2.0-liter engine and front-wheel drive (optional with all-wheel drive) on 2017 Lincoln MKC models. Lincoln began replacing its troubled MyLincoln Touch infotainment with SYNC 3 during 2015. The newer voice-controlled system can connect to smartphone apps, as well as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
The luxurious cabin is pleasantly detailed. Back-seat space is tight, especially with the panoramic sunroof.
Underway, MKC delivers well-controlled handling and responsive steering. MKC offers a choice of strong engines, each able to deliver a quick, healthy dose of vitality just when its needed. Both engines are turbocharged four-cylinders and both work with a 6-speed automatic transmission.
The base 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine comes with front-wheel drive. Producing 240 horsepower, its strong enough to move the MKC swiftly from a stop.
The more powerful 2.3-liter EcoBoost comes with all-wheel drive. Making 285 horsepower and 305 pound-feet of torque, it delivers brisk performance, with 0-60 mph acceleration in about seven seconds.
The Lincoln MKC is built on the same foundation as the Ford Escape.
Crash-test scores are nothing to boast about, though the MKC has an impressive list of available active-safety features. In testing by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the MKC got four stars overall and for frontal-impact, with five stars for side-impact. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the MKC a Good rating in moderate frontal overlap and side-impact crash-tests, but the more difficult small-overlap test has not yet been performed. (The closely-related Ford Escape got a Poor score.)
A rearview camera comes standard. Upper trim levels add blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. An optional Technology package includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, Active Park Assist with Park Out Assist, and forward collision warning.

The Lincoln MKC is an SUV heavy on design and technology, without resorting to the quirky looks of the MKZ sedan. Its considered a compact luxury crossover, and is built on the platform of the Ford Escape.
The MKC performs with verve, and pleases us with its sophisticated cabin and overall refinement, although the back seat doesnt offer much.
The Lincoln MKC competes on generally equal terms with the Audi Q5, Acura RDX, Cadillac SRX, BMW X3, Lexus NX, and Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class, while costing considerably less. The Hyundai Santa Fe and Kia Sorento are not considered luxury but still well equipped and worth considering.
The base engine is Fords impressive 2.0-liter EcoBoost turbocharged four-cylinder, making 240 horsepower and a strong 270 pound-feet of torque, with front-wheel drive standard and four-wheel drive available.
There is a 2.3-liter version available, straight out of the sporty Mustang, that makes 285 horsepower and 305 pound-feet. Because it comes with all-wheel drive its not that much quicker than the front-wheel-drive 2.0-liter; it accelerates from zero to sixty in about seven seconds. Both engines use a 6-speed automatic transmission. Theres no V6 available, but youll never miss it.
Changes for 2016 are all in the infotainment system. Its been a problematic area for Ford. The new Sync 3 uses a capacitive touch screen replacing the MyLincoln Touch resistive touch screen; the voice command is improved and there are other upgrades. However, its not yet clear whether Sync 3 fully replaces MyLincoln Touch. Theres also a new parking system that parallel parks or unparks without the driver having to touch the steering wheel.
Fuel mileage for the MKC with front-wheel drive is an EPA-estimated 20/29 mpg City/Highway, while the all-wheel-drive 2.3-liter is rated 18/26 mpg City/Highway. Those numbers arent much if any better than the competition, which also offers high-mileage hybrids and diesels.

Lincoln MKC is a new model, very likely the first Lincoln less than 15 feet long. It joins the ever-expanding spectrum of compact crossovers taking over the luxury market.
The new Lincoln MKC is derived from the same basis as the Ford Escape. However, it is more than just new lights and adornment, with major chassis changes and an engine the Escape doesnt offer. That MKC shares some components with other Ford and Lincoln products means only they have been proven, and is no different than what Audi and Volkswagen or Toyota and Lexus do.
Distinctive looks inside and out help distinguish the MKC, and it welcomes at night more invitingly than most. We found build quality at least as good as that of its competitors, with real wood and aluminum trim, and leather often better than any challenger.
Technically, the new MKC seats five, but we think it is better suited for couples and families of four or fewer. Grown-up space in front is countered by a cozy rear seat, and cargo space is compromised by the styling, situations not unique to Lincoln in this class. By most dimensions inside and out, the Lincoln MKC splits the Audi Q3 and Q5 and the BMW X1 and X3. MKC is larger than the Range Rover Evoque. Its similar in size to the Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class and Lexus NX, and a bit smaller than the Acura RDX, Cadillac SRX, and Volvo XC60.
Both four-cylinder engines available in the MKC are turbocharged; a 2.0-liter engine is offered with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, a 2.3-liter comes only with all-wheel drive. A V6 is not offered nor is it needed, the 2.3-liter is more powerful than an Audi Q5 V6, and offers more torque than any challengers V6. A 6-speed automatic transmission is standard; there is no diesel or hybrid version.
Lincoln did not try to make a sports sedan of the MKC and thats a good thing, though it will hustle along a winding road if needed and it has a solid feel. MKC is quiet, comfortable and a great way to cast external stressors aside without being as numb as a couch.
Modern amenities are catered to with various device connections and work with the infotainment system. A THX II-certified 14-speaker sound system easily fills the cavern, a panoramic moonroof lessens claustrophobia in back, and safety systems include collision mitigation braking and adaptive cruise control. An MKC will steer itself into a parking spot, and unlike many, help you get out of it as well.
Besides slotting in size between its German competitors, Lincoln MKC aims to play the value card. Even at the base price it includes things like pushbutton start/keyless entry, HID headlamps, driver memory and park sensors that are often optional on challengers. Only an Acura RDX comes close in this regard, and while a loaded MKC can top $50,000 similar features elsewhere will cost at least as much.
